Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar is on a roll. His second release of 2012 Rowdy Rathore has smashed records once again and entered the exclusive Rs100 crore club at the box office.
Rowdy Rathore made a very impressive Rs66.50 crores (£77,80,500) in its opening weekend on 1st June 2012 and to date has made a total global collection of Rs113.80 crores (£12.9 million) making it the biggest hit of 2012 and the first “blockbuster” film of the year. It also marks Akshay Kumar’s biggest box office smash hit to date.
Made on a budget of Rs. 48 crores, Rowdy Rathore had a massive opening, making Rs 15.10 crores on its opening day alone. Akshay thanked his many fans on Twitter as he excitedly said: “I owe a HUGE thank you to my audience! You are the only reason behind the biggest opening weekend of my career! Love Rowdy.”
Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh, who gave Rowdy Rathore a 4 star-rating, tweeted “#RowdyRathore collected Rs. 22 cr nett in Wknd 2, taking the total to Rs. 101.5 cr nett. Breakup:- Fri 5.1 cr, Sat 6.4 cr, Sun 10.5 cr +”
Rowdy Rathore marks Akshay Kumar’s return to the Bollywood action arena after a long absence. The film is packed with action, death-defying stunts and Akshay’s characteristic dose of comedy, showcasing his skill and versatility as an actor. The romance factor sizzles too, as Akshay and co-star Sonakshi Sinha (Dabangg) exude chemistry in the film.
The film is directed by renowned Tamil choreographer and actor Prabhudheva (Wanted, Shakti – The Power) and also features the considerable talents of producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, famed for his directing credits for Black, Devdas and Saawariya. The film marks Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first foray into the action genre.
Rowdy Rathore is in cinemas nationwide.
