Rituparno Ghosh has started dubbing for his first English language film, The Last Lear. He had to dub each actor separately, and thus has been traveling from Mumbai to Kolkata and vice versa for the past month, based on each actor’s availability.
Rituparno has said that Divya Dutta and Shefali Shah have completed their dubbing for the film. The dubbing was rather difficult for Divya because her character has an accent in the film, according to the director. Both ladies play important roles in the film.
After these two, he approached Preity for her dubbing. He said he had to be patient with her as she was busy with several other things. But he has managed to get her to dub for the film and it is said that her performance has enhanced because of her dialogue delivery. Amitabh Bachchan was the last to dub because he is busy shooting in Hyderabad for Sarkar Raj. This is the first full fledged English language film for all actors involved. Rituparno said that he was very surprised and happy with all of his actors efforts.
With an English language film, many suggested to Rituparno to shoot in sync sound. But he shot back that actors like Arjun and Divya offer much more through their voice, so it would be more impactful through dubbing. He also says that Big B, who had to recite long Shakespearean passages in the film, showcased a textbook of emoting through his dialogue delivery during the dubbing.
This is surely one intriguing project and we cannot wait to see the final product.
