Maverick media baron and movie producer Pritish Nandy who produced Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi recalled the film’s powerful impact with rightful pride. “It was and perhaps will remain the only real political film of our time where no compromise was ever made while telling the story. It takes no sides and yet tells you why and how the young of my generation chose to rebel against the brutality of the system. How they won and how they lost. How the system never changes. Politics may change. New parties may come into power. But people will always suffer under every regime. And the young will continue to dream of change. It is a story of love, loss, betrayal. It is a story of hope and sadness. It is a story of the dreams we dream as young men and the world we yearn for. It is a story of rebellion and hope; compromise and courage.”
Pritish Nandy was all praise for his director and musicians. “Sudhir Mishra captured it all with both courage and compassion. It will be a long time before someone makes another Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. Shantanu Moitra’s haunting music and the songs of the film will remain immortal. For that, we also have to credit Swanand Kirkire. The music album has two of my poems as well with Shubha Mudgal singing along with them. It is sad that Virgin Music shut down in India and the songs are not easily found on any music site any longer. Those who have the album are lucky. They should treasure it. Two decades have gone by and yet people still remember and talk about the film. That is the biggest reward we all got for making Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. The film will not be easily forgotten.”
