Karan Johar and Ram Gopal Varma have never claimed to be buddies and in fact not even civil friends. In fact both directors are fierce enemies and this time they have taken their enmity to quite an extreme. It all began when RGV claimed that he was in the midst of writing Phoonk 3 and had apparently decided to cast his “friend” K-Jo to act opposite the crow.
During the My Name is Khan DVD launch, K-Jo was informed of the casting choice and had a quick rebuttal, “I have heard that Ram Gopal Varma said that the scariest movie he has ever watched is Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. I have not seen Phoonk or Phoonk 2, and I hope Phoonk 3 never gets made.” And with this started a war of words between the two directors.
K-Jo later went on tweet, “Early morning dreams come true? I dreamt I was watching Phoonk 2 and holding RGV’s hand in fear. Is this possible?” To which RGV tweeted back, “Well, I don’t know about Phoonk 2, but I’m scared of the Karan Johar hand holding part.”
While the conflict and strife between both filmmakers is not a recent one, the two never seem to agree on any matter. Johar later blogged about his rivalry with RGV to state, “I don’t hate RGV. Hate is too strong an emotion to waste on anyone. I regard some of his work and I am indifferent to others. He’s no friend of mine and will never be.”
