King Khan vs. Big B

If there was ever a media-made clash, this is it. Though both parties have categorically denied any tension, the media and public continues to insist that Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan are at loggerheads. When Guru released earlier this year, Amitabh Bachchan made a comment about the film grossing more than Don and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna which was seen by many as an insult to Shahrukh. Rumours of a fight were ignited once again when SRK took Amitabh’s place as host on Kaun Banega Crorepati. Later on during Abhishek’s marriage to Aishwarya Rai, Shahrukh Khan along with many others was left uninvited while stars like Preity Zinta, Kajol and Karan Johar attended the wedding. Though it was meant to be a tiny affair from the beginning, the media blew this out of proportion and unabashedly published rumours of a rift between SRK and the Bachchan clan. As Shahrukh’s relationship with Salman Khan was patched up, many believed that this was turning into a Khan vs. Bachchan war. Till date the rumours have not subsided despite great denial by all parties in focus.

As unethical as it may sound, the entertainment industry thrives largely off of the personal lives of the rich and famous. For some reason, their lives are far more entertaining than our own which explains the thousands of tabloids that continue to make money. The bottom line is that controversies do sell like no other story out there. Before we can take a breath, new headlines will continue to be plastered all over and we’ll be given something new and fresh to talk about. It’s just the way things work!
