Ishq, Pyar, Mohabbat. What would Bollywood be without it? Love it or hate it, you can’t ignore it! We take a look at the most romantic scenes of recent times… Electrifying chemistry, undeniable on screen presence, and undying love are some elements witnessed from these couples.. who set the screen on fire!
10 – Mohabbatein
This film especially deserves a mention mainly due to one of it’s main strengths, the romantic and memorable dialogues, ‘Pyar Zindagi Ki Tarah Hota Hai, Jiska Har Mor Asaan Nahi Hota. HarRaaste Per Khushi Nehi Milti. Par Jab Hum Zindagi Ki Saath Nahin Chorte, To Hum Pyaar Karna Kyun Choren?’. Megha loves her father Narayan Shankar dearly but can’t live without her love Raj Malhotra and commits suicide. Although it isn’t exactly a romantic scene, it is a significant one. It is the reason for the duel between Raj and Narayan and the fight for love between the three young couples in the film
9 – Hum Tum
A perfect example of how friends became lovers. She was the no nonsense, fiery chick falling for Karan the girl- crazy and lovable dimwit. From the moment they met, it was love.. they just didn’t know it yet. Until several years later that is! But the scene that set the scene (no pun intended), was when Karan came to convince Rhea to get married. This led to them acting out a ‘fake arranged marriage’, complete with make believe children and Timmy the dog. Sparks flew and there was no turning back…
8 – Fanaa
Many were skeptical that the never before seen pair of Kajol and Aamir would work. But one look at them in Fanaa stunned the audience and critics alike. This was a pair to be reckoned with and why not? You can’t expect any less from bringing two of the best actors together! It may be difficult to pinpoint one exact scene. But one that surely everyone will remember would be when Rehan and Zooni play a singing game. Lost in the intensity of his gaze while they dance, Zooni begins to realize who he really is. And Rehan confirms it with his familiar lines…
7 – Parineeta
With her gentle playfulness and his charming demeanor, chemistry was not far away. A classic scene it may not be, but aesthetically shot it definitely was! The scene in question is the misunderstanding between Shekhar and Lolita. This is soon cleared and they realize that the reason for their jealousy is because they love each other, the ensuing love scene is so beautifully shot and expressive that it is unparallel to any other of recent times.
6 – Dhoom 2
What do you get when you pair one stunning actress with one equally stunning actor? Instant fireworks! And that’s what happened from the very first moment Aishwarya and Hrithik share the screen. And when you see them you can’t help but wonder, why were they never paired together before?! The standout scene between this pair would definitely be the gunpoint scene when Aryan wants to see where Sunehri’s loyalties lie.
5 – Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
Everyones favorite on screen jodi Kajol and Shahrukh. There are so many scenes from the many movies they have signed on together, but for this particular one, there is one scene that everyone is fond of… Rahul and Anjali are at the Chandni Chowk Mela and he makes her wear the bangles while saying those classic lines riddled in double meanings, this is where he reveals his true feelings. ‘Chuba? Mujhe Bhi’. Scenes like this prove why this romantic pair remain unsurpassed!
4 – Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
It’s probably safe to say that Salman and Aishwarya will never star opposite each other again. But the first and last time they were paired remains unforgettable. Sameer and Nandini looked like they were made for each other. Sameer’s charisma matched beautifully with Nandini’s innocence and naivety. There are many scenes that could be named, but the one worth mentioning would be when the two are listening to her grandmother tell a story. Sameer playfully unties her choli and embraces her while retying it again. In that one scene the realization of attraction dawned upon them culminating in a love that wasn’t destined to last.
3 – Dil To Pagal Hai
Sweet and simple girl Pooja believes in soulmates, finding that perfect person made just for you. While somewhat erratic, but endearing Rahul is skeptical on the whole concept of love. In the search for finding the ideal dancer to play ‘Maya’, he stumbles upon Pooja and is instantly captivated by her allure and charm. To play these romantic characters who better than the king of romance himself Shahrukh and the gorgeous Madhuri? On leaving the wedding of an acquaintance, Pooja suddenly realizes that her bangles are missing to which Rahul mischievously says he has them and that if she wants them she has to come closer. Innocently enough she goes to him to get them, then realizes that Rahul wasn’t being playful anymore and the two hold each other in a romantic embrace.
2 – Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge
‘Bade Bade Deshon Mein, Aisi Choti Choti Baatein Hoti Rahti Hain’
Our favorite jodi makes another appearance at number two, with possibly everyone’s second favorite film by the two (the first, you probably already guessed!). Yet again this film has many classic lines and moments. Raj and Simran fight non stop during their trip to Europe, but somewhere along the line love crept in without them realizing. Raj was the first to acknowledge his feelings and made it clear on the journey back, when they are about to part ways. Simran asks him ‘You will be attending my wedding?’, to which Raj replies that he won’t. Simran’s look of puzzlement soon turns into understanding cuing the romantic song ‘Ho Gaya Hai Tujhko To Pyar Sajna’.
1 – Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
‘Hum Ek Baar Jeete Hain, Ek Baar Marte Hain. Shaadi Bhi Ek Baar Hoti Hai Aur Pyar… Ek Hi Baar Hota Hai”
It’s no surprise that this film would be on the number one spot, the most romantic on screen couple appear a fourth and final time. Many films have used the plot of friends becoming lovers, but none have done it better than this and probably never will! And the scene in question? The gazebo scene of course! Rahul and Anjali are playing charades, when suddenly it begins to rain heavily. Rahul takes Anjali to a gazebo to shelter them from the rain and then innocently begin to dance, as the dance persists, the mutual attraction between them surfaces; Anjali realizing that she is engaged to Aman runs away.
