Last month, to mark 15 years of The Official Asian Music Chart, BBC Asian Network launched an Ultimate Asian Music Chart No.1 Vote, in collaboration with The Official Charts Company, to find the nation’s number one chart song. Choosing from a list of the top 50 biggest selling tracks that have made it to number 1 since March 2010, members of the public cast their votes for their Ultimate Asian Music Chart No.1 and we now have a winner!

After some fierce competition for the Asian Network Official Music Chart Vote the Top Five, as voted by the public, has just been revealed as:

‘Tum Hi Ho’ – Mithoon & Arijit Singh (Aashiqui 2, 2013)
‘One Pound Fish8 – £1 Fish Man (2012)
‘Satisfya’ – Imran Khan (2013)
‘Kala Chashma’ – Amar Arshi, Badshah & Neha Kakkar (Baar Baar Dekho, 2016)
‘Naina’ – Diljit Dosanjh, Badshah & Raj Ranjodh (Crew, 2024)

When it was launched, the Official Asian Music Chart marked an important moment for British Asian listeners and the South Asian music scene and was the first ever Asian Music Chart to be compiled by the Official Charts Company. Since its launch, it has seen mainstream tracks from British Asian talent like Naughty Boy and Joy Crookes, Bollywood bangers from Arijit Singh and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Punjabi power anthems from Diljit Dosanjh and AP Dhillon featured, amongst other tracks and artists.

The number one was announced in a special countdown show hosted by Asian Network’s Nikita Kanda and Haroon Rashid on BBC Asian Network. You can listen back to the countdown on BBC Sounds where you can also here interviews with some of the artists who have helped to shaped the Asian music scene alongside hear some of the biggest number 1s the chart has seen over the past 15 years.
