Two Much: Wearying Manish Malhotra

[socialBuzz]

The new episode of Amazon’s Two Much with the chirpy irreverent co-hosts Twinkle Khanna and Kajol twinkling and, errr, cajoling the guests out of their shells, was scandal-free.

Last week, Karan Johar created a stir by making some suggestive comments which he admits were said just to liven up proceedings. This week, Manish Malhotra was a good boy, nothing controversial . He was given a tough time by the three ladies on the show for his lehnga exorbitance. Like a little boy being bullied good-naturedly by his three sisters on Raksha Bandhan, Manish took the ragging sheepishly.

At one point while bringing up Manish’s (nonexistence) love life when the stylist said, “I’ve never had a relationship ever, it’s true. I am in the best relationship, and that relationship is with me and my work.”

(Pause to yawn)

To this , Twinkle quipped, “There are only two virgins in the film industry: Salman Khan and Manish Malhotra.”

Take that with a binge of assault. For once it was fun to watch the ladies being on top of a situation.

Interestingly, Manish’s journey into fashion began through his love for cinema, “I was born interested in movies. At the age of 6, I would want to dance to every song, and I was interested in clothes.”

He also revealed himself to be a Mama’s Boy. “One thing, I have to give it to my mother; she encouraged my love of films. I wanted to change the way films look. Because, in the late 80s, movies had stopped looking good. All stars in the 70s were so stylish. From Rajesh Khanna’s kurtas to Amit Ji’s collars, Zeenat Aman, and all of them. But in the late 80s, I think that was missing. And I was determined that I would only design for movies, and I’ll always be a costume designer.”

Did anything earth-shattering emerge from the hour-long conversation? Not really. Except that the two feisty co-hosts demanded that ladies too should have pockets in their sarees and lehngas and that this privilege (of pockets) should not be restricted to men and their “Pockets and rockets.”

Ah-Men to that.
