In the past couple of years, audiences have been presented with hard-hitting dramas as realistic cinema has been doing the rounds in Bollywood. We have been enlightened with various perspectives of real life events as directors showcased some unique and groundbreaking films. To name a few, Black Friday was based on the 1993 Bombay blasts, Undertrial was based on the story of a girl being raped by her own father and more recently, Provoked presented the story of Kiranjit Ahluwalia who was pushed to the point of murdering her abusive husband.
Now, director Ujjal Chatterjee brings us a love story set against the backdrop of the horrendous 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami that took the lives of millions. Titled, Tsunami, the movie traces the events that took place in the life of the three main characters post the traumatic incident. The story revolves around a geologist who travels to the scene of the event where he is re-acquainted with his former love who is frantically searching for her husband. The movie is set to star Aamir Khan and Rani Mukerji in lead roles. It will also feature Amitabh Bachchan in a pivotal role.
Chatterjee’s earlier film, Escape from Taliban, also looked at the true story of an Indian woman’s escape from Afghanistan.
