Shilpa Shetty has been honored with the Silver Star Award for her exceptional work for humanitarian causes especially her contributions towards increasing HIV/AIDS awareness.

At a gala dinner in London, the Leader of Britain’s House of Commons Jack Straw presented Shetty with the prestigious award. The dinner was being held in celebration of the 20th anniversary of election of Keith Vaz. Vaz who is a NRI leader, Labour MP and former minister for of Britain’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

During her brief acceptance speech Shetty said, Vaz, “screamed the loudest,” during the outcry over the racially abusive comments made to Shetty while she was on the television show Celebrity Big Brother. Shetty went on to become the winner of that show.

HIV/AIDS awareness is a cause close to Shetty’s heart and she once played a character that contracted the disease, in the movie Phir Milenge. She received rave reviews for that amazing performance and was nominated for a Filmfare Best Actress Award.

We applaud Shilpa Shetty for her humanitarian work and hope that it will make a difference in the world!
