The new talent Vedang Raina, who made his debut in The Archies and wowed in the drama Jigra, the actor who just turned 25 talks with Subhash K Jha about birthdays, getting older, his career and more!

Vedang, what is it like being 25?
Honestly, I know a lot of people who’ll think I’m crazy for saying this but it’s scary being 25.

Scary?!
Yeah, I feel like I graduated only yesterday. And 25 is officially the “mid-twenties”, and it feels like a major responsibility on my shoulders to deliver. Luckily, I’m as focused as ever on the goals I want to achieve.

How did you bring in your birthday?
I brought in my birthday at home with some friends, nothing too fancy. I actually don’t believe in celebrating my birthday; it just feels like any other day to me. This is probably the most I’ve done in many years for a celebration. I usually just spend it with family.

What is the best gift you received this year?
Best birthday gift was probably a card that I received from my parents.

Your childhood memories of your birthdays?
My childhood memories are mostly of going to a theme park or spending it with my family. I actually share the exact same birthday as my mom, so we celebrate it together. She says my birth was her best birthday gift.

Do you like being pampered on your birthday?
I don’t care about being pampered. I’ve really never been the type to get pampered, neither by friends or family. I never get any fancy presents either, and I’m actually totally okay with that. The concept of birthdays for me has really changed since I’ve become an adult.

Are you satisfied with the progress you’ve made in your career?
I’m never satisfied with my career. In fact, I’m rather restless now, since I want to restart working as soon as I can. I know I have so much to give. Just trying to be patient in the meantime.

Where do you see yourself at 26 next year?
At 26, probably a bit more polished and a lot more experience under my belt. I only think about my career. I want to be more proficient and more successful. And one thing I’m looking forward to is my music as well. I want to pursue that more seriously in the coming year. However my goals are long term, maybe 5-6 years. We’ll talk about this again at 30 as well, haha. Maybe, then, I’ll be satisfied.
