Amongst the players, Viacom18 Motion Pictures has been at the forefront of this progressive evolution and has constantly brought path breaking yet commercially successful cinema to the Indian screens. Taking a leap ahead Viacom18 Motion Pictures has yet again taken the initiative of taking the road less travelled. This time with the foray into production and presentation of short format movies.
In association with the ‘India Is’ initaitve, Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Anurag Kashyap Films Private Limited has co-produced 5 unique short format movies which are centred around core theme of ‘India is Visual Journey’. 5 talented young directors come together under the supervision the torch bearer of new-age Indian cinema Anurag Kashyap. Neeraj Ghaywan, Vasan Bala, Anubhuti Kashyap, Shlok Sharma and Getanjali Rao create 5 unique stories – The Epiphany, GeekOut, Moi Marjaani, Hidden Cricket and Chai come together to catch the varied emotions, aspects, layers of modern day India. Each story picks up a particular element which represents the pulse of India in the current time. Neeraj Ghaywan’s The Epiphany follows the story of a divorced couple who is forced to take a road trip where they are forced to scrape the wounds of the past that they thought was long gone; Vasan Bala’s GeekOut deals with the subject of dual lives we lead, that virtual alter ego we all have nurtured and empowered, The Indian “Geek” today is no longer that lad who sat in a corner; Anubhuti Kashyap’s Moi Marjaani displays the story if a single mother in small town India who braves to find love on the internet; Shlok Sharma’s Hidden Cricket is a short which encapsulates the shades of a nation that loves cricket, lives cricket, beyond conventions and beyond rules, from breaking boundaries to breathtaking highs and lastly Geetanjali Rao’s Chai showcases the view of rapid change that India is going through and what it means to those people whose faces we never notice as we go along sipping our cup of everyday tea.
