In Vidya Balan’s movies up until now, her characters have either worn the traditional sari or have been more of a plain Jane dressing character. However for her new movie, Heyy Babyy, Vidya is getting a glamorous makeover and the person responsible for the new fab look is none other than illustrious fashion designer Manish Malhotra.
Together he, Vidya, and director Sajid Khan worked to create a subtle, but sensational design for the costumes. In fact they even had photo shoots to make sure they were getting it exactly right.
Khan said, “We did three photo shoots with Vidya and Manish long before the film went on floors. In the film Vidya is playing a Sydney based millionaire, so I could not have her in sarees and salwar kameez. I needed a very, very, very good actress and also someone who carries herself with a lot of dignity.”
Malhotra, who has dressed many of the best and brightest stars in Bollywood, was asked to use his amazing skill to design the whole new glam style especially for the movie. He said, “Vidya’s dressing is very believable. In the film she lives in Australia, so the colors used are not Indian. The western outfits that she wears have a lot of geometrical designs and stripes.” He also said that even though there is a scene where she does wear traditional clothing, it is not the same style as her previous avatars.
About her look for the film that also included a new hairdo and make-up, Vidya said, “Heyy Babyy is very different from the kind of stuff I have been doing. This is my first glam western look. Manish has always been known to create magic with his heroines. He has given me a different look and I hope it creates magic as well.”
