Vindoo Dara Singh talks with Subhash K Jha about his life, his career so far and what may be coming next.

Vindoo, how do you look back on your life and career so far?
There’s definitely a sense of satisfaction and, at the same time, a feeling of incompleteness. Of course, I want more. But at the same time, jo mila bahot mila. You look back on your career and see the ups and downs, and the career feels beautiful. Life feels beautiful. The love of the entire country, Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Isai, that’s what I cherish the most.

Was being the son of the legendary Dara Singh a blessing?
Being his son was a blessing, of course. How many get the privilege to be born a legend? Ask R D Burman if he was blessed to be Sachin Dev Burman’s son. Ask Shabana Azmi and Baba Azmi if they are blessed to be Kaifi and Shaukat Azmi’s children. I am lucky. I must have done some good work in my last life to be born with a golden spoon.

But weren’t the comparisons detrimental to your career?
Comparisons! You can’t compare him to anyone, not even his son. He was something else; he was not an average human being.

In hindsight, how do you look at your failed marriage with former actress Farah?
You make mistakes and you should always remember when you have a failed marriage, just take the good part out of it. And the greatest part out of it is my son Fateh. If Farah was not in my life, I would never have Fateh, and without Fateh, my life would be incomplete.

What about the biopic on your father, the great Dara Singh?
The biopic will definitely be made with my son Fateh playing my father. I’m just waiting for him to accept it as his first movie. If he accepts it tomorrow, we’ll start immediately.
