Awards, awards and more awards! And so the season continues. The Star Guild Awards had a much smaller list of attendees, but our stars still brought their fashion A-game to the red carpet.
Alia must be on a Prabal Gurang-wearing-spree as this was her second look in a row. Thankfully though this one fared so much better than her look at the Screen Awards. Love the color on her and the sleek do.
Verdict: Sizzling Hot!
Ms Padukone hardly ever gets it wrong, but sadly when she does it is at this magnitude. The Amit GT gown never was a favourite, and to add to that, this swept-back-wet-hair look just made matters worse. Let’s leave it at that and look forward to the recovery from this.
Verdict: Not Hot
Another person who hardly ever gets it wrong is Jaqueline, who went with a Gaurav Gupta gown on the night. Like Deepika’s choice of gown, this one too was a bit beyond saving. Then she went ahead and added that dated hair straight out of a Raveena Tandon 90’s movie, making this look a definite not hot.
Verdict: Not Hot
Kriti continues her winning streak at events (take a bow stylist!). She, like Jaqueline, also went with a Gaurav Gupta gown but one that was much more impressive. She styled it minimally to ensure that the neckline feature was the highlight of the look. If pushed to pick a small flaw, I would have opted her makeup stay much similar to the darker-edgy style that was sported on the ramp, though Kriti did pull off the brighter alternative well.
Giving figure-hugging, sheer-loving and slit-heavy gowns a break was Lisa Haydon in a Gauri & Nainika gown. Usually her understated gowns have a risqué feature to distract you, so you appreciate the got-out-of-bed hair, however here the Gauri & Nainika grand gown needed to be complimented with something more elegant and formal. Not to mention, the gown itself is something that is a bit debatable given the color and the addition of the belt. Who else thinks this is a rare miss by Lisa?
Verdict: Not Hot
Pallavi went with a Vizyon gown on the night. She styled it with a low up do and red lips. Given this was a heavy embellished gown, it was a good choice to skip on the jewelry.
Its one hit followed by one miss for Parineeti. Here it wasn’t the Riddhi Mehra dress or the styling, which was quite impressive courtesy of the corset-tie Christian Louboutins that was off. It was the fact that this was a red carpet event outfit choice. This just felt more appropriate for a promotional event or a press conference.
Singer Kanika Kapoor went with a Peter Pilotto dress from the designer’s spring 2012 collection. Unlike Parineeti’s knee-high Riddhi Mehra, this one had a bit of oomph in it, making it award-friendly. To add to that, Kanika really styled it up with striking up-do. The singer looked great!
Wearing a shade that many don’t dare to try was Priyanka Chopra, in a Toni Maticevski hi-low gown from the designer’s Resort 2015 collection. It is amazing how small changes in styling can completely change the feel of a look. Lilly Collins sported the same attire minus the dark lips and sleek hair and gave it a very day-friendly bubbly vibe, whereas Priyanka’s look was more edgy. We think Ms Chopra did a great job with the dress and made it her own.
Verdict: Very Hot
It is often forgotten what great gowns Atsu does. Luckily the designer’s work got a bit of an outing with Shraddha’s look at Star Guild. She looked effortlessly stunning in her red Atsu gown. The only minor gripe with the look is the hair. I wish she’d pulled it back to show off the bodice design.
Tabu did Indian and unsurprisingly it was in an Abu Jain and Sandeep Khosla suit. Usually one to dismiss their gota-heavy designs here I have to say Tabu very effortlessly pulled it off.
