One of the most talked about and anticipated films in the coming weeks is Gandhi, My Father. Directed by Feroz Abbas Khan and starring Akshaye Khanna as Gandhi’s eldest son Harilal, it is the story of the relationship between Harilal and his father.

Anil Kapoor who is producing the film, says the reason he chose Gandhi, My Father was that he loved the script from the minute he heard it. “I believe that nothing can be better than Gandhi My Father for my first production. I had complete faith in the script and could see that it was written with complete conviction,” said Anil. Adding that he always chooses films that he believes in as an actor so he wanted to do the same as a producer.

There is controversy surrounding the film because the story is about the troubled relationship between father and son but Kapoor says, “As far as I’m concerned the film has been cleared by the censor board with a ‘U’ certificate without cuts. We’re releasing on Aug 3. We’ve shown the film to many Gandhians and Gandhiji’s relatives, including his grandson Tushar Gandhi. He had the highest praise for our film.”

Adding that controversy would not sway him, “I come from a family of fearless filmmakers. When I worked with Mani Ratnam, Vinod Chopra and Shekhar Kapoor they were not the names that they later became. I chose them on the basis of the script. I’ve the same gut feeling about Feroz. He’ll make a very special niche for himself.”

About Khan he went on to say, “I’ve worked with different type of directors but Feroz is a rare human being and artiste. His talent has been a revelation. As a producer I’ve done my best to stand by the project.”

With everyone raving about the promos and Akshaye Khanna’s performance we hope this film will get a standing ovation from critics and audiences alike.

Gandhi, My Father opens on August 3rd.
