2008 proved to be a so-so year for the little Bachchan. Drona was a huge flop, Sarkar Raj muddled along interminably and his year was only rescued by a bravura performance near the end in Dostana. But 2009 is already shaping up to be better. Firstly, there’s the intriguing Delhi 6 where he plays opposite Sonam Kapoor – back on screen at last – and then there’s Ravana/Ravaan opposite Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and finally an outing with SRK in Kal Kissney Dekha.
Kal Kissney Dekha should provide dream debuts for the offspring of two renowned film-makers – Jacky Bhagnani, son of Vashu, and Vaishali Desai who is the grand-daughter of Manmohan Desai. SRK and Abhi are only making special appearances but that should be enough to attract interest to the movie. “Abhishek Bachchan is a part of one of the romantic songs which is going to be shot in New Zealand in the first week of January,” says director Vivek Sharma.
Abhi is also busy on the commercial front, being closely involved in Spice Telecom’s campaign to promote social development through its Idea campaign and rebranding exercise. Initially targeted at the Punjab and Karnataka, the campaign has focused on using the power of mobile phone technology to promote ideas such as Democracy, Education, Communications and Equality. Abhi appears to have taken the ideas on board himself and has recently purchased a laptop for his mother Jaya and is teaching her to become net-literate.
