After an up-and-down year in 2008, Tanushree Dutta will be hoping that 2009 will be the year that she finally breaks through to the big time. First up is Ramaa the Saviour with Sahil Khan and Dalip Singh. “I play the unconventional role of a strong girl called Sameera in this film,” she explains, “When I heard the script, I realized that I would be in my comfort zone when I do the role!” In the movie, which is aimed at children, Tanushree plays a Lara Croft-type role.
Next along is Mr Fraud with Ajay Devgan and Bipasha Basu in a double role, which will keep all of Bips’ fans happy. Finally, there’s Do Lucky with Govinda, Celina Jaitley and Ameesha Patel. Tanushree is pleased at the way her career has been developing. “The films that I have done till now have all helped me grow as an actress and prove that I am quite versatile because I have not played safe by resorting to being typecast as an actress,” she says.
Although the film itself disappointed, Tanushree’s performance in Saas Bahu Aur Sensex last year was well received and the former Miss India has also appeared in such notable films in the past as 36 China Town with Shahid Kapur and Kareena Kapoor and Raqeeb with Rahul Khanna and Sherlyn Chopra.
