Already, 2007 is looking like it will belong to one of the biggest brand names in Indian cinema; Yash Raj Films.
The production company has created an interesting and hype creating line up of releases for the year by creating a calendar with stills from their forthcoming releases. The fun begins very shortly in April and will lead right up till early 2008. As icing on the cake, these projects are starring some of the biggest artists of the industry.
“Come celebrate life like never before” on the 27th of April with the release of Siddharth Anand’s Ta Ra Rum Pum. Director Siddharth Anand of Salaam Namaste fame has once again shared an exhilarating journey with the fantastic Saif Ali Khan as well as the queen of Bollywood, Rani Mukerji. The promos of the movie that aired with Salaam-E Ishq have already excited audiences all over the world and it looks like TRRP will be a rollercoaster of emotions! Focusing on quite a different genre this time, Siddharth has the audiences more excited then ever.
After a mere two months, audiences will be able to stop waiting for the next YRF flick on celluloid. Bunty aur Babli maker Shaad Ali Sehgal is back once again on June 15th to rock the nation with Abhishek Bachchan in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. This time accompanying Bachchan Jr. will be the vivacious Preity Zinta, hot and happening Lara Dutta and talented Bobby Deol. Amitabh Bachchan will also be making a special appearance in the film and some rumours suggest that Aishwarya Rai and Shahrukh Khan will be seen for a bit as well. We’ll just have to wait and see if Jhoom Barabar Jhoom creates the same waves as BnB.
In the past few years Yash Raj Films have developed an image of being a production house that not only delivers quality movies to the masses but also gives life changing opportunity to rising directors. This year Shimit Amin is the lucky maker who manages to grab this opportunity of a lifetime. Not only that, Shimit Amin has also bagged the King Khan to star in a lead role! Shahrukh Khan-starrer Chak De India will arrive on August 10th and mark the third YRF release of the year. The movie is not only giving director Shimit Amin a great opportunity but also is providing a dream role for newcomer Vidya Malvade. Word around the town is that Chak De India will give a whole new meaning to sports-themed movies in Indian Cinema. Shot in Australia on a very “hatke” theme, Chak De India is surely one of the most anticipated movies of 2007.
Two years ago we saw the debut of a great maker who brought us a beautiful Indian tale and of course the talented Vidya Balan. After his debut directing Parineeta, Pradeep Sarkar goes from strength to strength with his next release, this time produced by Yash Raj Films. Titled Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Rani Mukerji will accompany National award-winner Konkona Sen Sharma, the legendary Jaya Bachchan and Anupam Kher, the immensely talented Kunal Kapoor and the dashing Abhishek Bachchan. The cast is enough to get audiences rushing to cinemas on October 12th, as the film takes on Jodha Akbar.
Yash Raj Films will end the year with a bang–and by bang, we mean a thunderous bang! November 30th will mark the comeback of the legend, the diva and the ever-so-green Madhuri Dixit. Acclaimed cinematographer Anil Mehta was the lucky maker who is getting a chance to work with the legend in his first-ever directorial venture, titled Aaja Nachle. Once again Kunal Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma will be seen in a YRF project along with Akshaye Khanna and Ranvir Shorey. It seems Yash Raj Films have taken a liking in providing actresses with sensational comebacks (Kajol in Fanaa) and have ensured that the hype of the comeback of the Queen of the 90s is raging! It will truly be the comeback of the decade.
But wait, there’s more—the list isn’t over yet! Yash Raj’s line-up will run all the way up to 2008 when they open the year with one of the most loved and adored duos of all time; Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar! The talented actors will be seen on celluloid after many years in writer Vijay Krishna Acharya’s (writer of Dhoom series, Guru) debut venture, Tashan. If you think the name is catchy, wait till you hear the rest of the cast! Saif and Akshay will be joined by Anil Kapoor in a negative role as well as the Princess of Bollywood, Kareena Kapoor.
Well ladies and gentlemen, is that a hell of a line-up or what? 2007 will witness comebacks, various debuts and projects of some of the finest talents in India. The box office already looks all lit up for YRF and the audiences are certainly ready. Now all you have to do is wait and watch! Will these projects live up to the massive expectations from moviegoers around the globe? Let’s hope so!
