Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara Wins Entertainer of the Year

Popular media outlet NDTV honored performers, activists and sportsmen alike in Delhi’s Taj Palace Hotel this week. The NDTV Indian of the Year Awards honors all those who through their contributions to their industry have promoted the Indian brand successfully and with pride. Although the event was attended by a few personalities including Anna Hazare and Dev Anand, the winners hitting the headlines were the team of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, who received the Entertainer of the Year award.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was a huge success globally for the Indian film industry, as it collected Rs. 52.50 crores worldwide in its opening weekend, making it at the time the highest grossing Hindi film of 2011. For the ZNMD team, which includes Zoya Akhtar, Abhay Deol, Katrina Kaif, Farhan Akhtar and Hrithik Roshan, receiving the Entertainer of the Year award was just as exciting. Tweeting about the event Farhan said “Off to Delhi for the NDTV Indian of the Year awards… looking forward to meeting up with friends there…” While thanking NDTV for the award Farhan Akhtar said “For me to receive this award from Prannoy is an achievement. I watch TV because of him only”. Stars who tweeted their support for the team included Karan Johar who tweeted “Congratulations @FarOutAkhtar @ritesh_sid @iHrithik by far my favourite film of the year!!! Zoya is a STAR!!! Way to go team ZNMD!!”

Musical team Shankar, Ehsaan Loy, who worked on the ZNMD soundtrack, were awarded with Entertainer of the Year for Music. Commenting on their award, the team said “We have to thank Zoya and Farhan as working with them brings out the best in us.”

Activists Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal were awarded with Indian of the Year for their contribution to promoting transparency in Indian politics. Kejriwal honored Hazare himself saying “I would like to dedicate this award to Anna Hazare and people of this country since I believe that every Indian is truly an Indian of the Year.”

Honored with the Lifetime Achievement award was cricketer Rahul Dravid and Evergreen actor Dev Anand. Dravid said “I am grateful to NDTV for this honor. I would like to thank all my fans for their love and support” while Anand said “I am honored with the gratification. I would like to dedicate this award to people of the country who have inspired me over six and a half decades”

Indian cricket captain M.S. Dhoni and his team were bestowed with the Indian Heros award. Dhoni said “We believe in consistent cricket that’s why first we lost consistently and now we are winning consistently.”

The award ceremony was attended by Abhay Deol, Farhan Akhtar , Kalki Koechlin, Zoya Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy, Dev Anand, M.S Dhoni and Rahul Dravid to name a few along with other celebrities on bureaucrats.
