Saregama proudly presented Roop Kumar Rathod & Sunali Rathod, one of Bollywood’s most accomplished artists, in an evening of rare musical excellence in London last week – De Montfort Hall Leicester, Symphony Hall Birmingham, Royal Festival Hall London, Philharmonic Hall Liverpool. The duo performed Bollywood Hits along with Vintage golden oldies of yesteryears such as ‘Laga Chunari Mein Daag’, ‘Madhuban Mein Radhika Nachegi’, ‘Chalte Chalte’ and many popular ghazals such as ‘Dil-e-Nadaan’, ‘Patta Patta Boota Boota’, ‘Wo Meri Mohabbat’ and many more.

Earlier the duo has given their fans a specialized genre but this time the listeners got a mix of many genres, thanks to the versatility of the singers.

The artistry of Roop and Sunali has been showcased on several acclaimed albums including Ishaara, Sun Zara, Velvet Voices and Mann Pasand.

About Roopkumar Rathod:

Roop Kumar Rathod is the epitome of a complete artiste and has carved out a musical niche that spans Ghazals, Bhajans, Sufi, Light Classical and Playback singing as well as composing his own work. If that wasn’t enough, Roop Kumar Rathod’s talent extends to being one of the few tabla masters of his generation. During the heady days of Ghazal gayaki in the 1980s, Roop Kumar Rathod released his own double album Parvaaz in which he composed, sang and accompanied himself on tabla – a rare feat indeed.Since then, he has added albums like Vaada (under the baton of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Gulzar) , Music for Meditation (in collaboration with Vanraj Bhatia) and more recently the best selling Sufi album Teri Justajoo.

Poetry is a passion for this amazingly gifted artiste who classes himself fortunate to have sung the verses of Ghalib, Mir Taqi Mir, Kaifi Azmi, Sahir Ludhianvi, Shakeel Badayuni as well as the Saint poets Meerabai, Tulsidas, Sant Tukaram and Sant Kabir.

About Sonali Rathod:

SuSunali Rathod began her musical journey at the age of ten, under the guidance of Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar, who taught her the intricacies of Indian classical music. She was also fortunate to learn from the late Ustad Fayyaz Ahmed Khan and Ustad Niyaz Ahmed Khan from the Kirana School of Music. Her base training in Indian classical music enables her to effortlessly switch between various musical genres, be it a ‘geet’, a ‘ghazel’ or a ‘tappa’.

In 1986 Sunali was honoured with the Best Ghazal singer award for her debut album ‘Aaghaaz’. This established her status within the ghazal arena and lead to numerous successful tours both in India and abroad. She then went on to release a succession of successful solo ghazel albums such as ‘Dil-Kash’, ‘Khazana’ and ‘Shabnam’ as well as a bhajan album titled ‘Bhajan Kalash’ and a Gujarati album titled ‘Mogra Na Phool’ which was composed by Purushottam Upadhyay. Apart from ghazals and bhagans Sunali has also lent her melodious voice to television serials such as ‘Jaan-E-Alam’, ‘Bahadur Shah Zafar’ and ‘Guftegu’, which was composed by the Sarod Maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. Then in 2007 Sunali released her debut solo pop album titled ‘This Is Me – Sunali’.
