One of the biggest blockbusters of 2010, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai pitched Balaji Motion Pictures as a production house to look forward to and owing to the critical and commercial acclaim the film fetched, makers almost subsequently announced a sequel. Although the filming of Once Upon a Time in Mumbai (OUATIM) 2 commences only around January 2012, it’s been in the news for a while that Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor have been signed to play the leading roles. Fresh reports imply that the newest addition to the cast is Shahid Kapoor, who is in talks with the makers to play Chhota Rajan, Dawood’s right man turned-rival in the film.
While Akshay Kumar gets set to reprise the character of Dawood Ibrahim from where Emraan Hashmi left off in the first part, Shahid’s introduction in the plot does not have any bearings to any characters from the predecessor film. Kareena plays the role of Dawood’s lover Mandakini.
Further if as reported Shahid does indeed sign the dotted line for the said character; it brings him on the same project with ex-flame Kareena. Though the two wouldn’t be paired romantically, fans of the duo will wait with anticipation to see if they do get to share any screen space at all together.
If all works as planned, OUATIM 2, which is currently being scheduled to hit theaters in May 2012 will be the first big release after IPL-5.
