On March 19, 2011, on his way to a friend’s Holi party, Navin Nischol passed away as a result of a heart attack. He was 65 years old.
In 1968, Navin Nischol received the first gold medal from the Film & Television Institute of India (FTII). He went on to become an actor who was famous in the 70s for movies such as Victoria No. 203 (1972) and Dhund (1973). After several commercially successful movies he switched over to character roles and television. One of his most famous television serials was a popular comedy in 1993 Dekh Bhai Dekh,, which was set in Mumbai featuring an extended family with Shekhar Suman & Farida Jalal as co-stars.
The last movie he was seen in was Break Ke Baad (2010) as Imran Khan’s father, Jeet Gulati.
His colleagues at FTII and in the film and television fraternity alike remember him fondly. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
