Rohan Sippy was so determined to sign up Akshay Kumar for Chandni Chowk to China that he had a poster specially designed showing him in the role. It tempted him and he signed up. “I don’t think we could have envisioned any other actor in the role of Sidhu,” says Rohan, “Akshay has breathed life into this role. People will feel sympathy when he is a fumbling Sidhu and will cheer when he beats up the bad guys.” The poster is essentially the same one being used now to promote the movie.
Sajid Nadiadwala has signed Akshay’s co-star in CC2C Deepika Padukone to star opposite him again in his new movie Housefull. Is this the start of a new jodi we ask ourselves? “The film is a comedy flick and this is the first time I will be doing something very different,” explains Deepika, “I don’t know how I will manage. I will try my best.”
Akki’s Kambakht Ishq, which stars Kareena Kapoor and features Hollywood stars Sylvester Stallone, Brandon Routh and Denise Richards, is now scheduled to be released on May 29th. There’s a lot riding on its success as producer Sajid confirms, “We’ve worked really hard to give the film an international look and feel. The film has gone way above budget. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to make such an expensive film again.”
