Amrita Puri made her debut in Bollywood as the bubbly girl Shefali in Aisha, and is now all set to dazzle the screen with Kai Po Che. She is completely delighted to be a part of the film and says that she doesn’t mind being in a supportive role, as far as it is meaty and she is not just an ‘accessory’ on screen. “Bollywood somewhere is still a male dominated industry, and that is why I am fine with being a little picky and keeping a gap between the films I do. I don’t want to take up a role that is not meaty enough,” she said.
But then wasn’t it a hard choice to be in a film which is about three boys? “Not at all. Gattu (Gautam Kapoor) was one of the directors that I really wanted to work with, so there was no confusion or indecisiveness that I went through when Kai Po Che came my way,” she said. She also added that supporting roles are not just side roles anymore and are given credit as well. “The category of supporting roles is now redefined in the industry. The best case in point will be Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is so talented and is always appreciated for the same.”
Amrita also hopes that she can be like her character Vidya in the film, who has a way with boys. “Vidya is like imli (tamarind), sweet and sour. She knows how to get what she wants. That is a skill I hope I have too,” she chuckled.
She also says that now she knows the kind of work she wants to do. “Aisha was my first time and I was new to this place. But now it has been three years that I have been here, and I know myself and what I am like much better by now,” she stated.
Kai Po Che is directed by Abhishek Kapoor and will be seeing Amrita Puri with Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh and Rajkumar Yadav. The film will hit the theatres on 22nd February.
