As the world watched in horror at the tragic tsunami that hit Japan last week, one person in particular who was counting his blessings was Kites director, Anurag Basu.

Anurag wrote on his Twitter profile: “May GOD be with the people of Japan. I was supposed to be there today to attend Osaka Film Festival. My travel plans were changed last moment.”

The director, who has films like Life in a Metro, Gangster and Murder under his belt, had to attend the Osaka Film Festival (scheduled for March 5-13) where his film Kites was going to be screened.

Hundreds lost their lives when a tsunami caused by a huge 8.9-magnitude quake devastated north-east Japan on Friday, March 11, 2011.
