Bandar has become one of Anurag Kashyap’s most talked-about films in recent years. In the scathing film, Bobby Deol faces the biggest challenge of his career in Anurag Kashyap’s Bandar. He plays an actor falsely accused of rape by his ex-girlfriend, and even suffers a harrowing stint in jail.
The character and experience are based on director Anurag Kashyap’s own shocking, nightmarish brush with the MeToo scandal. Luckily, Anurag didn’t have to go to jail. He had relevant documents to prove he was in another part of the world when he was allegedly improper in his conduct towards a starlet.
The trailer of Bandar will be launched on May 21.
Recalls Anurag, “What I had gone through stayed with me. According to our law, a man is always guilty until proven innocent. Luckily, I had documented proof of my alibi. Not everyone is that lucky.”
The plot in Bandar turns the MeToo movement on its head and casts Bobby as a man cornered by a vengeful woman.
“The misuse of laws pertaining to sexual harassment is rampant. More awareness needs to be created about such legal transgressions,” says Anurag.
