It is a common notion that many times movies are inspired by real life and sometimes vice-versa.

Anurag Kashyap, co-producer of Udaan, reaffirmed this belief recently when he shared his adolescent year’s anecdotes of leaving home, thus drawing parallels to the plot of the upcoming movie.

Udaan, directed by debutant Vikramaditya Motwane, stars Rajat Barmecha and popular TV stars Ronit Roy and Ram Kapoor. The film is the story of a boy who is sent to boarding school. When he returns, he is forced to work with his father and pursue engineering against his wishes. Hence, he decides to run away from home to follow his dreams.

Anurag revealed a letter he had penned to his parents before leaving home in 1993 to pursue his Bollywood dreams. He went on to confess that the movie has aspects from his life and he plans to first release the letter on his Facebook wall and then use it for other promotional purposes.

“The theme of Udaan is universal and everyone can relate to it almost immediately. It’s a phase when all of us are out to rebel against our parents, our society. Even in my case, I was extremely hurt and had written a seven-page letter to mom and dad saying that I am leaving home to pursue my dreams,” Anurag said in a recent interview.

“I desired freedom from my parents, freedom to do what I wanted in my career. Since Udaan is exactly similar in theme, I thought I could share my letter to promote the film,” he added.

The film, which is co-produced by Kashyap, Sanjay Singh and UTV, was screened at the 63rd Cannes International Film Festival this year and is set to release on July 16.
