When Veer hit theaters, something else hit the screen moments before film began – the official theatrical trailer of much-anticipated Shahid Kapoor, Ayesha Takia, and Nana Patekar film Paathshaala (which can be found here). Directed by Milind Ukey, the film is set to release in April 2010. It will be released by Eros Entertainment and produced by Shaira Khan of Paperdoll Entertainment.
With comments on the Indian education system harking to Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par and 3 Idiots, Paathshaala promises to be showcase the shortcomings of the current system. They draw the argument of children being our future and any challenges to their growth are an obstacle to national development. It presents the idea that the noble profession of teaching has succumbed to commercialization like all other aspects of life, putting students through a grinder to yield to create cookie-cutter adults.
Shahid Kapoor plays the role of a new English teacher in a school which has maintained high standards of excellence under the direction of the principal, played by Nana Patekar. The interplay between societal constraints, children’s rebellion, and the characters’ personal beliefs form the premise of this film.
The child artists in this movie are Swini Khara, Avika Gor, Ali Haji and Dwij Narendra Yadav. The script has been written by well-known choreographer Ahmed Khan.
As a promotional gimmick, selected multiplexes across India will house colorful benches in addition to the film’s posters to attract audiences.
