The news floating for the past week has now been officially confirmed. Arjun Rampal will no longer be part of the cast for the much talked, much-awaited Farhan Akhtar directed Don 2. Earlier today, confirming the news, Arjun Rampal tweeted, “Hey Guys, Yes it is true won’t be part of Don 2. Wish the team all the success I am sure it will be a super film”.
Unlike many associations in Bollywood, where partings aren’t on a very pleasant note, Arjun’s exit from the film is on very cordial terms with his director. Apparently, Arjun and Farhan developed creative differences regarding the script and the role, and so decided it was best to part ways.
The legendary character of Jasjit (JJ), which was played by Pran in the original Don in 1978, was enacted by Arjun Rampal in the remake made in 2006. Arjun Rampal received many accolades for his performance in the film. The remake titled Don: The Chase Begins Again was directed by actor-director Farhan Akhtar and starred Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani among others.
After Don, Arjun continued his professional relationship with Farhan in the 2008 film Rock On!! for which Arjun won the first awards of his decade-old career – Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award and National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.
A spokesperson for the production house confirmed that while the character still is an essential part of the sequel, the team is looking for a suitable replacement for Arjun. Shooting for the film is scheduled for end of the year in locations across Europe. Arjun Rampal is currently preoccupied with the shoot for Shah Rukh Khan’s mega venture Ra.One.
Finally who steps into Arjun’s shoes is something we will have to wait for… Watch this space for updates.
