Sonakshi Sinha and Jyotika starrer System has been earning rave reviews and love for its intense courtroom thriller. The film examines justice, privilege and power through the lens of two women fighting against a system built to protect the powerful. As part of the film’s ensemble cast, Ashutosh Gowariker opened up about working with creator and director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, and reflected on why female voices behind the camera are essential to storytelling.

Ashutosh Gowariker shared, “I feel that the number of female directors in the industry is still not where it should be. It is very important for that number to grow, and it is growing. Women need to get more opportunities to express their stories, because only then will they get the chance to prove themselves. I think that is a wonderful thing, because the female gaze brings a very different way of looking at a situation. No matter how much men say we know everything, we don’t. Women actually understand more. So, I truly believe that the female gaze, especially in direction, is extremely important, and all the female directors I have worked with are outstanding.”

The story follows Neha Rajvansh, a public prosecutor played by Sonakshi Sinha, and Sarika Rawat, a courtroom stenographer played by Jyotika, whose contrasting worlds collide as they take on a fight that puts truth, justice and power on trial.

The movie is created and directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and produced by Pammi Baweja, Harman Baweja, and Smitha Baliga under the banner of Baweja Studios. The Original movie is now streaming exclusively on Prime Video across India and over 240 countries and territories worldwide.
