A few months back I asked actor Siddharth (Rang de Basanti on Twitter about the reason behind Striker’s unexplained delay, he had replied, “Good films sometimes take insane amounts of time. Reasons vary from good to bad, but ultimately, the results make the wait worth it.” Producer Boney Kapoor and director Satish Kaushik seem to entertain similar views regarding their upcoming flick Milenge Milenge (MM). Starring Shahid Kapur and Kareena Kapoor, this one’s a romantic treat that took a lot of time – six years to be precise – to see the light of the day.

Touted as a remake of the 2001 John Cusack-Kate Beckinsale Hollywood movie Serendipity, Milenge Milenge is the story of Priya (Kareena), a simple and romantic girl working as an assistant choreographer, who has crystal clear views regarding her life partner: he should not smoke, should not drink and should not lie. Enter Amit (Shahid) who is completely polar opposite to her dream partner. During a chance meeting in South Africa – Amit falls for Priya and as luck would have it, chances upon her diary where she has written about her ideal life partner. Amit, knowing that he is everything she despises – presents a totally different picture of himself to her. Priya falls in love with him, but is shattered when she stumbles upon the truth. When Amit tries to reason with her saying that it was destiny that brought them together, she decides to test it. Taking a note from him, with his name written on it, she buys a notebook and gives it away in an old shop. She states that if destiny indeed wishes to bring them together then they will find the note and the book and thus, each other. Few years later, both are engaged to be married, but whether destiny will indeed bring them together only time will tell. The film also stars Arti Chabria, Delnaaz Paul, Kirron Kher ,and others. Music is composed by Himesh Reshamiya, while choreography is by Ahmad Khan. The movie is being released under the banner of S.K.Films Enterprise and will release on July 9.

MM has already seen its quota of gossip with media going berserk with news of Shahid-Kareena refusals to complete the movie due to ‘personal reasons'(we already know what those are) while the lead stars continually defended themselves stating genuine date problems. It was even reported that Salman Khan was supposed to do a cameo, but later refused after his famous tiff with Shahid. Finally though, the movie is slated for release with both Shahid and Kareena having wrapped up the final scenes. Boney Kapoor is optimistic and feels that the movie will do well as love stories never go out of fashion. “The film is coming after Jab We Met (JWM),” he told a leading daily, “which established Shahid and Kareena as the most sought after onscreen couples.”

Films released after prolonged gaps have never really done well, So, many are skeptical about the movie. The audience reactions to the promos have been mixed as well. It is obvious that Boney and Kaushik are banking on the success of JWM to kick start MM’s initial collections. Whether the audience and the box office will favor this movie will be known only after the release. As Satish said, “A good film is always a good film and a good story is always a good story….”
