An announcement that has been two years in the making, the 53rd National Awards for the year 2005 were finally announced on August 7th. We learned who the winners were about a year back, but there was no official announcement until yesterday.

Amitabh Bachchan won the best actor award for his performance in Black. This is his third National Award (second for best actor), after he won one for best debutant for Saat Hindustani and best actor for Agneepath.

Other winners include Kalpurush for best film, Rang De Basanti for best popular film, Naseeruddin Shah for best supporting actor for Iqbal, Sarika for best supporting actress for Parzania, Rahul Dolakia for best director also for Parzania, and Lalgudi Jayaraman for best music director for Sringaram.

The National Award is the most prestigious award for an Indian film personality, so it is definitely no small task to win one. Congratulations to all the winners.
