While expectations from a Salman Khan film on Eid are very high, Bodyguard has beaten all pre-opening estimations.

Bodyguard has taken a stupendous start at the global box office, smashing many box office records for an Indian film in the process. These include the single largest days collections in India and the highest opening day in India and the UAE: Rs. 20 crore in India and 11 lakh dirham (Rs 1.36 crore) in Dubai.

The film has also opened a record mid-week opening in the UK. Tuesday saw limited screens at 32 cinemas taking £64,000. Wednesday’s full release was record breaking, with 51 cinemas, culminating in £195,000, making it the highest opening day for any Indian movie to date.

It also yielded an extremely strong opening in US. With a five day weekend in all markets we expect that Bodyguard will post a new record for an opening weekend in many markets.

Says Sanjeev Lamba, CEO of Reliance Entertainment: “Bodyguard has capped an extremely successful summer line-up from our stable, which also included stellar performers like Singham and Double Dhamaal.”

Bodyguard is the third Eid hit for Salman Khan after the success of Wanted (2009) and super hit Dabangg (2010).

The film has received a mixed response from critics but has proved popular amongst the masses and the stars. Many stars took to twitter to share their love of Salman Khan’s latest movie.

Bipasha Basu tweeted, “Just saw Bodyguard! Another blockbuster for Salman Khan! It would be nice to have a cute bodyguard like lovely Singh!”

Preity Zinta also shared her love for the movie tweeting, “Just saw BODYGUARD! Salman U n Kareena Rock! Its FAB & the action is AMAZING ! All da best This one is full Paisa Vasool :)”

Cricketer Yuvraj Singh tweeted, “Just finished watching bodyguard !! As usual Salman khan rocks!! hope you have a speedy recovery! good night.”

Kareena Kapoor stars alongside Salman Khan in Bodyguard. The film is a romantic action film directed by Siddique and produced by Atul Agnihotri.
