Bollywood mourns death of art director Samir Chanda

A few hours ago the news broke that premiere Bollywood art director Samir Chanda passed away due to heart failure. Samir Chanda, who is best known for working on films such as Raavan, Omkara, Rang De Basanti, Krrish, Kaminey and more recently Saat Khoon Maaf, passed away on Thursday evening following a heart attack.

The news has come as a shock to many in Bollywood. Film director Buddhadeb Dasgupta told the media, “We have worked together many times. He was a very good person and had a creative head. It will be difficult for the industry to get a man like him.”

The director Bedabrata Pain described how Samir Chanda believed in him and his film Chittagong and how he worked for ‘free’. He went on to tell the media, “I just spoke to him the day before and now he is gone.”

Celebrities also took to twitter to pay their respects to the critically acclaimed art director. Priyanka Chopra tweeted, “RIP Samir Chanda. Had the good fortune of knowing the incredible man he was in Kaminey and Saat khoon maaf. Thank u for always believing in me. This is a complete shock.. there is a song… “only the good die young” by Billy Joel .. U will always be remembered.”

Director Shirish Kunder who recently worked on his film Joker with Samir tweeted, “RIP Samir Chanda. Was working with him on JOKER. We just met last evening to discuss designs for next schedule. Am shocked!”

Singer Shreya Ghoshal also took to twitter to pay tribute to Samir, “R.I.P. Samir Chanda. The extraordinary art director of so many stunning films. His contribution to indian films was immense.”

Director Ken Ghosh tweeted, “R.I.P Samir Chanda. A very talented Art Director.”

Writer and director Anant Mahadeven tweeted. “Actor Shammi Kapoor, Art director Samir Chanda, composer Johnson, all left within a week…dark phase for the show world.”
