Finally the day has arrived when a film is being universally awaited to hit the big screen. Whether it is multiplexes or single screens, Tanu Weds Manu Returns has an audience across various segments of audience, which means finally Bollywood would have a reason to rejoice as an all-India level opening would finally be on the way. Yes, Gabbar Is Back has taken a good opening too, but then it had a superstar (Akshay Kumar) presence to it. In case of Tanu Weds Manu, it is the content which is set to pull the audience, which means a bountiful weekend is on the cards.
Though it is expected that the Kangna Ranauat-Madhavan starrer would certainly enjoy a double digit opening, it would be interesting to see if it goes on to manage the best of the year too by beating 13 crore fetched by Gabbar Is Back on the opening day. The film has all the cards going in its favor with good recall value of the original (Tanu Weds Manu), likeable actors (including Jimmy Sheirgill, Deepak Dobriyal), good music, good production values (Krishika Lulla) and above all, a director (Aanand L Rai) whose track record of making films rooted in Indian culture and ethos (Tanu Weds Manu, Raanjhanaa) is admirable.
All in all, good footfalls on the cards with at least 50% occupancy in the offering, which is set to grow bigger based on word of mouth. After the disaster of Bombay Velvet, industry needs a big hit to get some life infused into the system, and Tanu Weds Manu Returns could well manage to do that.
