British Asian Trust, the UK’s leading organisation for British Asian philanthropy, is partnering with soft drinks giant Rubicon this Diwali in an opportunity to triple the funds raised for the Give a Girl a Future appeal. The appeal, which launched last month, is the first public appeal from the Trust and with funds being doubled by the UK Government, Rubicon will further match funds, meaning donations are tripled with the launch of Triple Tuesday on Tuesday 25thOctober, in the lead up to Diwali.

The Give a Girl a Future appeal has seen a host of celebrity names encourage the public to donate and support girls, women and their families across South Asia. Singer Zayn Malik, actors Sanjeev Bhaskar and Meera Syal, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star Anita Rani, ‘Eastenders’ star Nitin Ganatra and chart topping British producer Naughty Boy join a host of British celebrities as well as Bollywood stars, in supporting Give a Girl a Future.

Hitan Mehta, Executive Director, British Asian Trust says:

“We have had fantastic support in the last month for Give a Girl a Future, an appeal of significant importance for the British Asian Trust. With the funds raised thus far we have already made a positive impact on the lives of thousands of young girls and women in South Asia, by ensuring education and essential skills training in the region. Our work is enabling a new generation of girls to be independent, obtain invaluable work skills and essentially earn and provide for themselves and their families for years to come.

We are delighted that Rubicon share our vision for Give a Girl a Future and their generous offer to triple donations, which are already doubled by the UK Government, means that the money donated by the British public this Diwali makes three times the impact to transform the lives of vulnerable girls in South Asia.”

Sean Dowie, Brand Group Controller, Rubicon adds:

“As a long-time supporter of the British Asian Trust, we are hugely excited to back its new public appeal, Give a Girl a Future, to transform the lives of girls and women in South Asia. We know this is a campaign that many of our customers will care deeply about and so Triple Tuesday gives us the opportunity to amplify public support for the appeal.”

The British Asian Trust’s Give a Girl a Future appeal is aiming to transform the lives of 100,000 girls, women and their families in South Asia through a campaign that will see the UK Government match all donations by members of the UK public made before December 7th.

In some rural areas, 94 women in every 100 have no work and even those with work, may earn as little as 17p per day. With no skills or hope the brutal reality for thousands of girls born into poverty in South Asia is that they have no real future.
