Rajesh Khanna & Mumtaz – If the previous jodi was more earthy and romantic, then Mumtaz and Rajesh had a more flirtatious and fun camaraderie with each other. There’s a satirical moment in Raja Rani (1973) which Khanna is paired with Tagore, Mumtaz makes a cameo as herself and Khanna proceeds to seduce her and steal her expensive jewellery. It’s a candid moment as they joke and spoof their personas, and that is what’s so wonderful about this Jodi: they have fun, joke, and spar with each other. But it’s not all fun and games with this Jodi, in one of their biggest hits Aap Ki Kasam (1974) they play a married couple dealing with trust issues, it brought out the best performances in the two, but it also gave a shot to the arm in Rajesh’s stagnating career.
