The 2017 Telugu action-drama film, Jaya Janaki Nayaka, has achieved a unique record. It is the first Indian film to surpass one billion views for a single video upload on YouTube.
While the Boyapati Srinu-directed film, starring Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas and Rakul Preet Singh, underperformed and ended up as a box office flop during its original 2017 theatrical run, its Hindi-dubbed version achieved viral status.
The film was dubbed into Hindi under the title Khoonkhar. It reached one billion views (100 crore views) on YouTube, a feat never accomplished by any other single Indian film upload on the platform.
This milestone highlights a long-standing digital trend in North Indian markets. Many high-octane Telugu action films that fail financially in Southern theatres find massive viewership on YouTube and satellite television channels in the North. Audiences frequently stream these movies during daily commutes on trains, buses, and metros, turning actors like Bellamkonda Sreenivas into highly recognizable digital stars outside their home industries.
