Our guest writer, Malini Agarwal aka blogger and RJ extraordinaire Miss Malini shares her night at the release of Gulzar’s book and snapped some fab pictures too! Check it out!

Last night Olive, Bandra in Mumbai came alive with the haunting lyrics (both old and new) of the incredible Hindi-Urdu lyricist, Gulzar to commemorate the launch of his new book, “100 Lyrics” and to belatedly celebrate his 75th birthday. For those who follow Hindi and love old Bollywood tunes; the kind (as Asha Bhosle said) that had soul, I dug up (with a little help from my BFF Google!) some of Gulzar’s finest lyrics for you’re reminiscing pleasure. Enjoy.

Tere Bina Zindagee Se Koi… (Aandhi)
Tere Bina Zindagi Se Koyi, Shikwa, To Nahi, Tere Bina Zindagi
Bhi Lekin, Zindagi, To Nahi

Tujhse Naaraz Nahin Zindagi… (Masoom)
Jeene ke liye socha hi na tha, dard sambhalne honge, Muskuraun tho, muskurane ke karz utarnne honge, Muskuraun kabhii to lagata hain, Jaise honthon pe karz rakha hain,
Aaj agar bhar aayi hain, boonden baras jayengi, Kal kyan pata inke liye aankhen taras jayengi, Jaane kahan gum kahan khoya, Ek aansoon chupake rakha tha…

Aanewala Pal Janewala hai (Golmaal)
Aane vala pal jaane vala hain, Ho sake tho is mein,
Zindagi bita do, Pal jo yeh jane vala hain…
Ek baar waqt se,lamha gira kahin, Wahan daastan mili, lamha kahin nahin,
Thoda sa hasake, thoda sa rulake, Pal yeh bhi janewala hain…

Mera Kuch Saaman Tumhare… (Ijaazat)
Mera kuch samaan tumhare paas pada hain,
Ooo, Saavan ke kuch bheege bheege din rakhe hain,
Aur mere ek khat mein lipti raat padi hain,
Woh raat bhula do, mera woh samaan lauta do,
Mera kuch saamaan tumhare paas pada hain…

Amazing right?

According to the press note “the book contains lyrics to 100 of Gulzar’s most memorable songs of all time that have been hand-picked by the artist himself. ‘100 Lyrics’ is a bilingual volume containing the original lyrics in Devnagari script alongside lucid evocative English translations, and features anecdotes about the composition of the lyrics, as well as a wonderful introduction by Gulzar himself; this collection is full of nostalgic charm and poetic finesse, and will delight readers for hours on end. The book has been translated into English by Sunjoy Shekhar.”

Bhupdiner and Mitali Singh performed to some of Gulzar’s iconic melodies much to the delight of Kirron Kher, Pritish Nandy, Anurag Basu, Ayesha Jhulka (remember her from Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander, haven’t seen her in ages right Last I recall she was in the Umrao Jaan remake.)
