Special Report: IIFA toasts the winners of the Technical Awards at IIFA Magic of the Movies

14apr_IIFAMoMEvent05The IIFA Magic of the Movies and Technical Awards was an evening dedicated to winners of the Technical and Special Awards of the Tata Motors IIFA Awards 2014.

Held at the Mid Florida Credit Union Amphitheatre, the Green Carpet was rolled out to welcome stars and the super talents of Bollywood, plus some special guests. Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Yami Gautam, Sridevi, Parineeti Chopra, Malaika Arora, Gauhar Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Dia Mirza, Hritik Roshan, Govinda, Anil Kapoor, Shatrugan Sinha, Sonu Sood, Anupam Kher, Vir Das, Bonny Kapoor, Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra, Mika, Shankar Ehsaan Loy and many more joined in the fabulous night.

Saif Ali Khan and Vir Das were the hosts for the evening, entertaining all with their one-liners and jokes, and included some skits about the future of Bollywood sequels and comparing the Hollywood and Bollywood industries.

The event started with a performance by Farhan Akhtar, singing his hits Dil Chahta Hai, Senorita and Zinda. Sonakshi Sinha also took the stage to perform her hit songs, including Har Kisi Ko, Party All Night and Gandi Baat. The crowd was also treated to the soulful voice of Ustaad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan who sang a few of his hit songs.

Mika Singh also took the stage, bringing the audience to their feet with Dummadam Mast Kalander, Tu Mere Agal Bagal Hai, Subah Hone Na De and more. Hrithik Roshan also briefly joined Mika on stage in an impromptu moment, dancing along to some of the songs, and drove the crowd wild.

Bipasha Basu performed a medley of recent hits, and Pritam was joined by the Nashville Blue Grass Musicians, a gospel choir, Aditi Singh Sharma and others for a collection of hits. Kareena closed out the performances, going back in time to perform a few classics, including Bahon Me Chale Aao and Babuji Dheere Chalna.

In between all the performances, the talented people behind the scenes of the films were celebrated with their well-deserved awards. Although many of the winners were not there, it was a great night to recognize the people who really make Bollywood films special.

Vivek Oberoi on stage giving awards: “Last time Saif and I were in America together we almost got arrested. Don’t ask me why.”

“I can’t even say I feel out of my own country because of so much love from our own people,” said Divya Dutta.

Hrithik, accepting best special effects for Krrish 3 on behalf of the crew: “I think the most special effect I’ve ever seen is the one you fans have on me. Thank you, Tampa Bay.”

It was a spectacular night, with rocking performances and great hosts entertaining the crowd. There were extravagant sets coupled with lasers, special effects, lighting and acoustics to create a magnificent audio and visual impact. The excitement through the evening truly took the audience on a fabulous ride, one that they’d never want to end.
