Everyone wants a piece of Bollywood. From Surya, Priyamani in Rakht Charitra, Vikram in Raavan, Trisha in Khatta Meetha, Siddharth, Asin, the years gone by have seen many south stars making seamless crossovers to Bollywood.
For those attuned to South Indian cinema, Ilena D’cruz is a much-loved name. Co-starring in Pokiri (original telugu version of Wanted), she has over 15 films to her profile since her debut in 2006. Now much to the delight of her fans, she is ultimately making her debut in Hindi cinema with Anurag Basu’s Barfee.
Produced by UTV, Anurag’s Barfee (titled Silence earlier) has Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. The essential casting of a parallel second female lead was in news for a long time with rumour mongers hinting at leading ladies Deepika, Asin and Katrina. However Anurag who is always on the lookout for fresh faces and is credited for introducing stunning actresses Kangana and recently Barbara Mori, was highly impressed with Ilena’s pictures and signed her instead.
Currently Ilena is occupied with the shoots of her regional films, Shankar’s 3 rascals (remake of 3 idiots) and Nenu Na Rakshasi opposite Rana Daggubati.
Barfee is currently in its pre-production stage and is expected to go on the floors by early 2011.
