Aamir Khan’s dream of teaming up with Sridevi never came true. He had a script ready which he wanted to direct with Sridevi and himself. That never happened.

But now Aamir’s son Junaid and Sridevi’s daughter Khushi are together in what promises to be the Jodi of the year.

In their first “love duet” ‘Loveyapa ho gaya’ from their forthcoming film Loveyapa, Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor prove themselves quite the chip off the old block. There is a fleeting glimpse of Aamir Khan’s Deewana Mujhsa Nahin chemistry with Madhuri Dixit, while Khushi reminded one of Sridevi in her Himmatwala days. You know, the dishy Ta thaiya ta thaiya drill?

As for the song rendered by Nakash Aziz and Madhubanti Bagchi it is an absurdist’s delight. Javed Akhtar wrote a nonsensical song in Mr India called ‘Hawa hawaai’ which coincidentally was one of Khushi’s mom Sridevi’s most iconic songs and dance numbers.

Why is it that absurdist art when swathed in nostalgia elicits wah wahs. But the same in a contemporary setting gets the cynics all snarky?

Says Javed Saab, “Everything doesn’t have to make sense in life. The same goes for film songs.”

Veteran actress Asha Parekh has only good wishes for the new jodi. “I have seen Aamir Khan’s son from the time he was a child. Junaid has grown up into a fine boy. I am sure he will do his parents proud. As for Sridevi’s daughter Khushi’s vivacity reminds me of the mother.”
