Known for his movies that boast of a star-studded cast, from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham to his latest My Name is Khan, it came as quite a surprise when Dharma Productions revealed the first look of Karan Johar’s next directorial venture, which has three debutants as the leading cast.

Student of the Year (SOTY), starring Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra and Aliya Bhatt, hasn’t hit the shooting floors yet, but the first look excited fans who were delighted with Karan’s return to the space he knows well – singing, dancing, candyfloss et al.

Recently, there were rumours of Shah Rukh Khan playing an important role of a professor in the film. Even Rishi Kapoor confessed to being in talks for a pivotal role in the movie.

Now the reports circulating are hinting that the romantic comedy is heavily inspired by popular American sitcom Glee. For those familiar with the TV show, Shah Rukh’s character is said to be modeled on Spanish teacher and Coach Will Schuester.

However unlike Glee, which is an out-an-out musical, SOTY will use the musical theme as a backdrop. Karan’s good friend Kajol is also expected to do a cameo in the film. If all this turns out to be true, we are very keen to find out who gets to enact the character of cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester.

Re-visiting the nostalgia of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, with Shah Rukh, Kajol, Karan and a rom-com musical at the helm, this is one ‘Glee’ful movie we are certainly looking forward to.
