Sajid Khan’s next film will be a remake of the Sridevi-Jeetendra starrer Himmatwala (1983). While Ajay Devgn has been signed as the male lead, the leading lady’s job is still up for grabs. The three actresses on Khan’s wishlist include Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma.
One of the highlights of the original film was the song ‘Naino Mein Sapna’, a song that the director wants to retain in the remake. Khan has bought the song’s rights and wants sister Farah Khan to choreograph it. At the moment, there’s no frontrunner and any of the three actresses could land the part played by Sridevi.
An insider reveals, “None of these girls have been paired opposite Ajay in the past, so it will be a fresh casting. Anushka and Katrina have expressed interest in the project. Deepika has an edge as she’s worked with Sajid in Housefull, but the final decision will be made in the coming weeks. The remake will have the same vibe and setting of the 80s film, and the songs will be choreographed keeping in mind the colourful setting of the time. The song will have a huge budget and will be shot lavishly.”
Sajid confirms that he wants to cast one of the three actresses, saying, “Yes, it’s true, but for professional reasons I wouldn’t like to name any one actress.”
Amar Butala, the creative head of the film, adds, “We have bought the rights of the super-hit song. With Sajid’s madness and Farah’s choreography, this song in the remake will be the most anticipated tracks in a long time.”
Sajid plans to add his own spin to the track, like he did with the Laawaris song ‘Apni Toll Jaise Taise’ for Housefull.
