Ashutosh Gowariker’s Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se (KHJJS), starring Abhishek Bachchan & Deepika Padukone in lead roles, released last weekend. However despite receiving average reviews, the movie had a very disappointing run at the theatres. Helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, who is known to give National Award winning & Academy Award nominated films like Lagaan, Swades & Jodhaa Akbar, KHJJS is based on the book ‘Do and Die’ by Manini Chatterjee and revolves around the Chittagong rising of the early 1900’s
As per trade reports the opening weekend (Friday-Sunday) collections for the movie was only Rs 32.5 million (Rs 3.25 crore). The reasons for the movie’s poor performance are being attributed to various factors ranging from poor screenplay to lack of publicity/marketing. One critic even reported that the film failed to be true to its genre and arouse any patriotic feelings among the audience. Apart from terming it as the weakest opening in 2010 for any movie starring A-listers, owing to its dry run, the movie is being taken off major theaters in cities.
With the past few weeks seeing colossal flops from famed filmmakers namely Guzaarish, Rakht Charitra-2, and Action Replay, a lot of money and hopes are set on the Christmas weekend release, Farah Khan’s upcoming Akshay Kumar, Katrina starrer Tees Maar Khan.
