Love Sex Aur Dhokha came under immense scrutiny because of its so-called bold concept, its bare-backed sex scene and two other facts: director Dibaker Banerjee and Producer Ekta Kapoor. The film covers a number of topics including the obvious: love, sex and dhokha, but also touches upon a number of controversial topics including the use of cameras in public places and even the youth in India. Be assured, Love Sex Aur Dhokha is not a happy film at all. In fact, the film is dark and incredibly realistic; it hits you like a baseball to your head making you realize that the new millennium and the technology it has brought with it created a number of dangerous issues. Not only has urban modern India changed but so have the core values. There are no big stars in LSD; you probably won’t even recognize any of the actors. However, the film does seem maha-interesting. Worth a watch? Let’s take a look.
Love Sex Aur Dhokha. In the first, we are introduced to a love story between a director and his muse. During a film making project, they realize that their professional relationship has developed into one of love. Eventually the duo elopes, gets married and look to the horizon for a beautiful future. And then we are introduced Adarsh who installs security cameras in order to increase security only to use it to make porn films in hopes to clear himself of monetary issues. Last there is Prabhat, a wannabe “suicider”. And as luck would have it, he meets Naina. The young girl has been promised a part in a music video and sleeps with the Hip Hop star only to be replaced by a Russian model. To expose the Hip Hop star, they collaborate a sting operation.
The film is unrealistically real – irony intended. All of the above incidents occur on a regular basis in India. The number of directors who fall in love with their actresses is immense; read Boney Kapoor and Sridevi. And the same works for the second narrative too. An incredibly high number of MMS incidents occur and are distributed over cell phones and over the internet will surprise you. And strangely it varies between vengeful boyfriends who are out to get retribution or small-time porn makers who take advantage of cameras in dressing rooms. The nude scene that has been publicized has been shot in perhaps the only way it could be shot; honest and raw. However, it is not there for entertainment or dirt value; it is needed to clearly describe the primitiveness of the episode. Sting operations have become a part of the Indian reality television circuit. Whether or not you choose to accept it, the reality is that certain taboos – the casting couch and so on, do exist in the industry. More importantly, it discusses the how’s, why’s and reasons to why journalists are hungry for incorrect “information.” Entertainment works and sells in India.
Love Sex Aur Dhokha, you are shaken up and told a reality that is normally hidden. But the truth is that it does exist.
The best part about the film is the fact that none of the actors are well-known or known at all. Each and every actor is a super find. The film wouldn’t have worked with established actors; they needed to be new and fresh.
