Everyone knows what a blockbuster Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots was at the box office. The latest news doing the rounds of the industry is that Gemini Film Productions is looking to sign Shankar to direct both the Tamil and Telugu version of of the film.

Close sources were initially saying that the film will have Vijay, Silambarasan in Sharman Joshi’s role as Raju Rastogi, Mahesh Babu taking on the character made famous by Aamir Khan in the lead role as ‘Rancho’ and Boman Irani’s rigid professor being acted by Sathyaraj. Madhavan was apparently penciled in to resurrect his character from the original as Farhan Qureshi, but his recent tweet has put an end to the rumors being churned out at the gossip mill.

“It’s final and confirmed. I am unfortunately unable to do 3 Idiots in Tamil and Telugu. I am really sorry about that.”

News on the grape vine indicated that Madhavan wasn’t keen on repeating the role in the remakes because he felt the originality of the Hindi version would be lost; however, Madhavan has cited his prior commitments with other projects as being the actual reason.

Currently working on several projects including Abbas Tyrewala’s Jhootha Hee Sahi, co-starring John Abraham with A. R. Rahman scoring the music, Anand Rai’s comedy entertainer Tanu Weds Manu with Kangana Ranaut and Sunglass opposite Konkona Sen Sharma, a film billed as a family entertainer revolving around the seven-year itch between a married couple and the changes that take place in their lives with the arrival of an antique sunglass.

Looks like the reason for refusal may be justified….
