NTR In ‘North-South’ Murugan Controversy

A raging debate has erupted over Jr. NTR and director Trivikram Srinivas’s newly announced mythological film based on Lord Murugan, after producer Naga Vamsi shared the movie’s first glimpse poster with the promotional caption: “Born in the North. Forged in the Heartland. Worshipped in the South. Now… A tale destined to belong to the universe.”

The line “Born in the North” deeply angered Tamil devotees and netizens. In Tamil culture, Murugan is fundamentally revered as “Tamil Kadavul” (the God of the Tamils). Devotees argued that ancient Sangam literature (like the Tholkaappiyam) explicitly establishes Murugan as an indigenous deity of the southern Kurinji (mountainous) region. Scripturally, his birth is traced to the celestial Saravana Poigai lake rather than a northern geographic location.

Supporters of the film and regional commentators noted that the caption aligns with broader Puranic Hindu mythology. In pan-Indian traditions, the deity is worshipped as Kartikeya, Skanda, or Kumara Swamy, the son of Lord Shiva born in the Himalayas to defeat the demon Tarakasura.

The film reunites Jr. NTR with director Trivikram Srinivas, featuring a musical score by Anirudh Ravichander. It is reported to be a massive, high-budget pan-Indian project tentatively referred to by fans as God of War.

Ahead of the project announcement, Jr. NTR was spotted at an airport carrying the research book “Muruga – The Lord of War, The God of Wisdom” by Anand Balasubramanian, confirming his deep preparation for the role.
