Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the intense crime drama Daayra boasts a very impressive cast that includes Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj. It hits the big screen on September 18th.
Inspired by true events, Daarya explores themes of crime, justice and punishment, and according to the director, ‘is a story that will compel viewers to reflect on society and its institutions’.
Right before the shoot began, Kareena posted to Instagram, “I’ve always said that I’m a director’s actor… and this time I cannot wait to work with one of the finest directors we have, @meghnagulzar & alongside the magnificent @therealprithvi, whose work I deeply admire.”
Prithviraj, again right before the film began, said, ”Some stories stay with you from the moment you hear them. Daarya is that for me. Excited to work with Meghna Gulzar, the incredible Kareena Kapoor Khan and Team Junglee Pictures!”

Meghna Gulzar said, “We needed to create a world that was authentic, with characters from different walks of life that were identifiable and real. Our Casting Director Taran Bajaj and team have done a superb job of bringing the world of Daarya to life. As has the team of Assistant Directors who have meticulously cast and designed the background actors that appear in the film – even if it is to just walk by!”
Casting Director Taran Bajaj added, “Meghna’s brief was to keep the world authentic and real, which meant Daarya needed actors with depth, sincerity and a strong understanding of human psychology. We cast 75 speaking roles, with each character approached from Meghna’s creative lens.”
